That was one teenager’s question which I found to be quite funny. After all, she did have a point. In the case of a nuclear attack, what’s the point of trying to have a life if nothing will hardly survive?
Nuclear explosions create fireballs that expand several hundred meters, blasts that can annihilate buildings and everyone in them, heat so fierce the devil will think he’s on holiday, and radiation that makes the Hulk feel like he’s at a smorgasbord.
Yet, if you are inclined to try and survive a nuclear attack, here are a few places you can hide:
Bomb Shelter – this is the obvious choice. They are located underground and designed to keep out radiation. Stock these with enough food and water for your family to last for at least six weeks.
Concrete Building – if you’re not directly in the line of the nuclear attack, this could be an option. The concrete can help to protect against strong winds and any residue of an explosion.
Home Basement – while not as sturdy as a bomb shelter, this can help because it’s underground. However, the home above could wind up being destroyed in the process.
In the event of a nuclear attack you’ll also want to make sure you have sufficient medication and wait for the authorities to tell you that radiation levels have subsided and stabilized.
Personally, I think that it’s going to take a lot for us to have another nuclear episode, but it’s always best to be prepared. Talk to your family and have a plan in case of an attack.
Be aware of local shelters and even shelters near where you work. Then make sure to have a plan of communication and meet up in case an attack happens while you and your loved ones are apart.
