Be Careful of HOW You Use Social Media
Social media can be a great way to stay in touch with distant friends and relatives. It can also be the perfect tool for thieves to figure out your lifestyle patterns.
Because of so much vanity, people often post their perfect lifestyle which includes their houses and vacations.
Beware of doing this. When you post a vacation or that you’re on vacation, it gives thieves a prime opportunity to break into your home because they know you’re not there.
If anything, take pics and post them after the vacation.
Make It Hard To Break Into Your Home
While you can’t always stop someone from physically trying to enter your home, you can make it extremely hard. Have layers of security to your property that deter thieves and make them work hard for entry.
This can start with a hedge of thorny bushes, screen doors that are extremely hard to open, and doors with some of the best deadbolt locks available. If you aren’t concerned about esthetics, then you can also add bars to your windows.
However, beware of the potential fire hazard those bars can pose in the future.
Another thing you can do is to train your dog to bark every time the bell gets rung or someone knocks on the door.
All of these things along with security systems can deter the thief long enough for you to summon help from law enforcement.
Use Signage To Deter Potential Threats
Posting signs around the property with beware of dog or that you’re an armed citizen can definitely make anyone with ill intent think twice about trying to enter your premises.
Beware of Imposters
This one is serious. There are scams where people pose as government workers to gain entry to the property. This can be in the form of law enforcement, city workers, etc.
If someone shows up with a worker’s vest or a uniform, then ask them for identification to clarify. If it’s a police offer, politely ask them for a badge and then call to confirm.
These are just a few tips that can help you with home security whether you’re living off-grid or not.
Make sure to implement them today.
Stay safe,
