If there’s one thing you should be aware of when storing food, it’s the possibility of getting food poisoning.
Some people don’t take these matters into consideration when building a food stockpile. Others simply think that certain food storage concerns are a myth.
If you want to have food you can consume without much issues, then you probably have the following questions:
“Does It Matter Where My Food Storage Is?”
Yes. While you work with what you can, the key to food storage is obviously preservation. A root cellar is going to do a lot better than a damp cupboard that can cause rust.
Along with that, putting items in the freezer can make them burst. So the place where you store your food is very important.
“I’ll Rely On Freeze Dried Foods”
These are great in the case of lack of food, but you must also beware of the fact that they come with a lot of preservatives. Personally, this would be a short term solution for myself and not something I’d consider using for months.
“Water Will Never Go Bad”
You may be correct…except for bottled water. Bottled water has an expiration date because the plastics could leak into the actual water. Consuming that water can do damage to your body and immune system. So it’s good to create your own water filtration systems as well.
“Any Food I Store Will Be Fine”
While we can’t be picky in extreme survival situations, not all food storage is created equal. You have to consider if everyone eating it will be affected by allergies or if you even have everything you need to prepare the meals?
Plus, will the food you’re storing still be fresh and safe after months of storage?
What You Can Do Moving Forward
Don’t wait to start building a food supply. You should start working at it now. However, you should also work at having the ability to store your food in the right conditions too.
Start preparing those spaces now so you won’t have any issues in the future.
