It’s what most of the population dreams of, but yet only few attain it.
Traveling to new lands. Seeing amazing sites. Sampling the local delicacy.
It’s a true desire to long for…but how can you achieve it?
Well, today the digital nomad movement is capturing all of the above and
then some. People are taking their lives into their own hands and living
a life of true freedom.
So you’re probably wondering…”how can I do the same?”
Well, there are at least 5 things you’ll need to do in order to become a
digital nomad yourself. I’ll reveal them here:
1. Plan Ahead
So can you just decide to leave the country and hop a plane to a remote
destination if you choose to?
Well…not quite…and not in every case.
Some places require visas and some still have restrictions when it comes
to covid.
In this case, it’s best to plan ahead as much as possible. Review the country
that you want to go to and see what their laws are. What the customs are of
the locals and also what the government requires to enter the country.
Nothing’s worse that landing at the airport only to be turned around after a
long flight. The good thing is with the internet at your fingertips, planning
won’t take long.
You can have access to all the information you need and also get in touch
with specialists that will make your journey to the country an absolute
breeze.
2. Save Up Your Money
If you’re not planning to work for a while, then it’s best to save up some
capital before you start your journey. Once again, planning ahead is the
key here.
Depending on the country you’re visiting, you’ll find the cost of living can
be very cheap compared to other countries. Thailand comes to mind
in this case.
One person alone can live on $800 to $1,000 USD and never miss a
beat. That includes a one bedroom condo and eating out everyday.
However, by planning ahead and knowing how long you want to be
out the country, you can set your budget for the countries you’re visiting.
This way you can travel, work, and create without any headaches.
3. Have An Ongoing Source of Income
Even if you save up your funds, it’s still best to have an ongoing source
of income too.
This will help buffer any potential situations that could possibly arise.
You can either look for remote jobs or start an online business. If that’s
not your style, then consider looking for jobs that hire people to teach
your language to the locals.
However, I wouldn’t depend on trying to find a job once I land in the
country I’m visiting.
4. Make Sure To Have Travel Insurance
There’s a saying that goes like…”the best way to sleep at night is to
be prepared.”
I couldn’t agree more.
I’m not a doom and gloom type of person, but I think that a person
should be prepared for potential problems.
So by getting travel insurance, health insurance, life insurance, and if
you’re going to be driving in the new country – car insurance…you’ll
be able to enjoy your digital nomad adventures even more!
5. Functionable Durable Luggage
This one is overlooked, but essential in my opinion.
If you’re going to be doing a lot of traveling then make sure you get
luggage that can meet the standard.
If you’re like most digital nomads, you’ll find that traveling with too
much is a bad idea. So you’ll look to keep it to maybe a computer
bag and a carry on.
Get something that won’t wear out with your frequent travels AND
that’s a quick pick up and go type of setup.
Trust me, going through customs can be cumbersome enough. Not
to mention having to wait hours for your luggage on the conveyor
belt.
Conclusion
So with all of the above stated, should you still pursue the digital
nomad lifestyle?
In my opinion, yes. The pros absolutely outweigh any cons. Plus,
as you’ll see when you take the plunge, you’ll figure out any issues
that may arise.
But most importantly?
You’ll discover more about yourself and experience a level of growth
that most of the planet’s population will never discover in their lifetime.
Hope this list helped.
